Chapters
Chapters are suggested quietly. You name them.
No chapters yet. When a shape appears in your entries it will be suggested here — you name it, and the entries gather themselves. Nothing is ever written for you.

Things that rhyme with today
Resurfacing is not built yet. When it is, this screen will quietly hold entries from this day in other years, threads you keep returning to, and things you started and never finished. memtale will never send you a notification — it will just leave things out where you'll see them.

WHEN YOU WRITE
NO STREAKS HERE
EVERY DAY YOU'VE WRITTEN
Nothing to count yet. The days you write will fill this in on their own — from dates, never from content.

Reading
You'll be reading these for decades. Set them exactly how your eyes like them.
Last night in the old place. We ate takeaway off the floor with the plates already packed, and Nadia said it felt like camping in our own memory.
While you write
Quiet organising
Notice threads, people and possible chapters in what you write, on this device. Never writes for you.
Attach the day around you
Place and weather, saved with the entry. Encrypted at rest on your memtale server.
Enter focus mode when starting a new entry
The first word you type hides everything else, for writing at length. Done brings Today back.
How your book is kept
Entries, photographs and health data are encrypted at rest by the memtale server, with a key that is kept out of the database and its backups. Your passkey signs you in; it does not hold a key, so there is nothing to unlock and nothing to lose but the way in. Whoever runs the server can read what it stores — keep your book on one you trust. You can take all of it with you whenever you like.
Lock memtale
Covers your book when you step away, until your passkey opens it again. It keeps out someone using this browser after you. It does not stop anyone who can open the browser’s developer tools or copy its files: the copy of your book on this device is not encrypted. Unlocking needs a connection to your memtale server.
When away
Passkeys
On a computer that cannot keep a passkey, the prompt can save it to your phone or a security key instead.
Devices and API tokens
New API token
For the command-line tools, the importer and MCP. A token reads and writes your whole book until you revoke it here.
This is the only time it is shown. Copy it now; if it is lost, revoke it and make another.
Bring your journal in
Pick the app it comes from, then drop its export here. Every entry keeps its date, its place and its weather, photographs come along, and importing the same file again never adds anything twice.
